Long Range Postal Match April 22nd
'06
(note: yet another corrected date)
I have been in contact with a gentleman in England for a month or so regarding a
postal match. The match will be shot at 7 targets at 25,50 and 100 meters. The
weapon standard match rifle lever action pistol caliber. ANY sights (yes scopes
ok) some off hand some off sticks. 5 man/woman teams.
Our match here will be shot Saturday
April 22nd
at the Santa Clara County Sports Park 200 yard range as part of our monthly long
range match.
Targets will be provided. Fee $15.00 for the match.
The paper targets are various critters.
Perhaps the FSS club would like to put a team together. We have one started for
the CVSS. I have three FSS shooters already. If anyone else ( Free Grazers etc.)
would like to put together a team all are welcome.
So far we will be competing against teams from Texas, England, Germany,
Switzerland, and Australia.
The prize is a picture of a really cool Scottish regimental trophy housed at
Edinburgh Scotland. Should be a hoot.
Yours
Charles F, "Wif" Adams
Sheriff
Coyote Valley Sharpshooters
I will be at the match on Sunday Oct. 23rd with a sample target or I can be
reached at 408-448-3256 or adamsgurn@launchnet.com to sign up or answer
questions.

Update on Chorro Valley Regulators
In case you have not heard, "The access bridge to the west of the Cowboy Range was officially condemned by CalTrans for a failure of the eastern most girder/post system and eminent failure of the eastern abutment. Barricades were placed on Monday the 23rd and permanent barricades are due at any time."
Which means you cannot get to the range the old way. Here is the rest of the info as we have it:
Well, some
good news...
In spite of the bridge closure the first 5th Sunday shoot will go on as planned,
albeit with a few minor changes...
The access bridge to the west of the Cowboy Range was officially condemned by
CalTrans for a failure of the eastern most girder/post system and eminent
failure of the eastern abutment. Barricades were placed on Monday the 23rd and
permanent barricades are due at any time.
The CVR Board will be meeting this week to work on plans permitting access to
the range from an alternate 1.5 mile road located 1.68 miles east of the
entrance to the SLOSA range on Highway 1. Currently this access is through
LOCKED CalPoly gates near the San Luis Obispo Educational Facility that must be
manned by security during our use of the CVR range. CalPoly Beef Section
Manager, Mike Hall (through Bill Plummer, Ol’ Dollar) has indicated that
temporary access (via issuance of keys to key CVR Board members) would be
acceptable provided that professional security personnel insure the gates are
kept closed to prevent cattle from leaving the pastures by any means. Marvin
Miller (Old Law Dawg), BOMAR Security, has agreed to staff the required gates as
required to gain access to the range. Bill Plummer has further indicated that
CalPoly may install cattle guards at the gate to make access to the effected
areas less cumbersome.
At this time, the time estimate (after approvals) for repairs to the bridge is
on the order of 6 months...your patience is GREATLY appreciated...
If all plans currently being proposed are implemented The Chorro Valley
Regulators will continue to hold ALL scheduled monthly matches and the 12th
Annual John Wayne Shoot-Out with only a slight inconvenience in range access...
In the meantime shoots will be carried out with a few necessary changes:
Vehicular travel on the bridge is strictly prohibited. Foot traffic is allowed
until repairs are undertaken.
Access to the range will be limited to actual day of the scheduled shoot and the
day immediately preceding for setup. One of the appointed “key holders” must be
on the range at all times.
Overnight camping will be prohibited until an emergency access procedure is in
place and approved by all involved.
Saturday-set up day will be limited time access (stage setup and minimal
practice) due to the costs involved with gate security. The Famous BBQ will be
suspended until overnight access is allowed.
Temporary tentative schedule for access through the alternate gate will be:
Saturday, 10am – 4pm
Sunday, 6am – 4pm
I will keep you posted on our progress

The folks at the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club have asked us to remind our members that if you are NOT a member of the MCSRC, you have permission to shoot ONLY ON FSS MATCH DAY. On any other day (including setup day) you MUST have a MCSRC member escorting you to shoot at their range.
